What is your confidence worth to you? How would your life change if you improved your confidence? Life coaching helps improve confidence, but is it important enough for you to ask for help?
Confidence is an important trait that can affect many areas of our lives, from our personal relationships to our careers. It can be difficult to build confidence on your own, but with the help of a professional life coach, you can learn the skills and techniques you need to boost your confidence and improve your overall well-being.
Blindspots can sabotage your confidence
One of the key benefits of working with a life coach is that they can help you identify the underlying causes of your lack of confidence. Often, our lack of confidence is tied to limiting beliefs or negative thought patterns that we have picked up over the years. When you aren’t aware of these patterns, they are effectively your blindspots.
A blindspot is a weakness or area of improvement that is not immediately obvious to an individual. These blindspots can prevent us from reaching our full potential and achieving our goals. A life coach can help uncover these blindspots and provide support and guidance to help us overcome them.
In the area of confidence, blindspots might include:
- Lack of clarity (leading into indecision)
- Past traumatic experiences
- Negative beliefs
- Overwhelm
- Unsupportive somatic habits (in aspects such as breath and posture)
Life coaching helps improve confidence by uncovering blindspots
A life coach can help uncover blindspots through a variety of methods, such as asking thought-provoking questions, providing feedback, and using tools and techniques based on their expertise.
When you work with me, I use a variety of methods to test and uncover your blindspots, and pinpoint what may be at the core of your challenges. Once we identify these blindspots, we can experiment with different ways of being – of thinking, doing, speaking, so that you can experience a different result, right there in our coaching room.
Additionally, a good life coach will also be able to provide support and encouragement to help you overcome your blindspots. This can include helping you to develop strategies to overcome challenges, providing accountability to help you stay on track, and offering encouragement and motivation to help you stay focused and motivated. By providing this support and guidance, a life coach can help you make progress towards overcoming your blindspots and achieving a higher level of confidence.
Another way that life coaching helps improve confidence is by providing you with a safe, supportive space to explore your goals and aspirations. Many of us have dreams and aspirations that we have never fully pursued, due to a perceived lack of resources or abilities. A life coach can help you clarify your goals, and then provide you with the tools and support you need to take action and start moving towards them. This process of setting and achieving goals can be incredibly empowering, and is why life coaching helps improve confidence.
Learn techniques to shift your confidence
In addition to helping you identify and overcome the underlying causes of your lack of confidence, a life coach can also teach you specific techniques for boosting your confidence in the moment. By practicing these techniques regularly, you can neutralize your inner critic and overthinking, and access your confidence when you need it most.
As an ontological coach, I can be specially efficient in helping you shift yourself in the moment. This is possible because we can work through the physical body.
For example, changing our breath can affect our sense of confidence. Taking slow, deep breaths can help us feel more relaxed and in control, which can improve our confidence. This is because deep breathing activates the body’s relaxation response, which can help reduce the physical symptoms of anxiety and stress, such as rapid heartbeat and shallow breathing. On the other hand, shallow, rapid breathing can make us feel anxious and unsure of ourselves, which can decrease our confidence. Additionally, paying attention to our breath can also help us become more aware of our body and how it is responding to different situations, which can improve our confidence by making us feel more in control of our physical and emotional states. Overall, changing our breath can have a significant impact on our sense of confidence.
Highly-experiential learning in our coaching sessions
I am also known for doing experiments and simulations with my clients during coaching sessions.
I emphasize experiments and simulations because they are highly-practical. They allow you to experience and see the results of your efforts, and gain a better understanding of your abilities. When you take action, you are able to see the consequences of your actions and learn from them. This can provide you with valuable feedback about your abilities and help you develop a more accurate understanding of what you are capable of. This, in turn, can increase your confidence because it gives you evidence of your abilities and helps you understand your strengths and weaknesses.
In contrast, merely talking about taking action can leave us feeling unsure of ourselves and our abilities. This is because we don’t have any tangible experiences or feedback to help us understand our capabilities. Without this information, it can be difficult to know if our thoughts and ideas are realistic or if we are capable of achieving our goals. As a result, we may still feel a lack of confidence in ourselves and our abilities after leaving the coaching room. This is why I go much further beyond beliefs, affirmations, theories and planning when I work with you on your confidence. The work you can get done is much more meaningful and powerful when you are willing to go deep, through experiential learning.
Taking action – even if it is a simulation in the coaching room – can also give you a sense of accomplishment and progress, which can further boost your confidence. When we take action and see the results of our efforts, we can feel proud of what we have accomplished and motivated to continue working towards our goals. This can improve our confidence and make us feel more capable and in control of our lives.
Do it yourself, or do it more easily?
I’ve shared a variety of ways that life coaching helps improve confidence, and the reasons behind. It should be obvious that there are differences between trying to improve yourself alone versus working with me.
First, having a life coach can provide you with a level of accountability and motivation that is difficult to achieve on your own. I can help you stay focused on your goals and provide encouragement and support when you need it most. Additionally, I can help you develop a plan of action and hold you accountable for following through on it.
Second, I can help you discover fresh perspectives and uncover valuable insights that you may not have considered on your own. I can help you identify limiting beliefs or thought patterns that may be holding you back, and provide guidance and support as you work to overcome them.
Third, you can learn specialized techniques and strategies that are customized to your needs and your specific situations.
Fourth, working with a life coach can provide you with a supportive environment where you can openly discuss your thoughts, feelings, and concerns. I can provide you with non-judgmental feedback and help you develop strategies to overcome challenges or obstacles you may be facing.
